The visit was mainly aimed at participating in SIAL Canada in Toronto and conducting talks with Canadian partners responsible for agricultural cooperation.
The Deputy Minister discussed the possibility of intensifying Polish-Canadian cooperation in the area of agriculture, including the prospects of increasing agri-food trade, with Canada’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture Andrea Lyon. The Secretary of State pointed out that CETA and the strategic partnership agreement between the European Union and Canada will create new opportunities for strengthening positive trends in economic relations between our countries. Deputy Minister Jacek Bogucki also discussed the matters of determining conditions for trade in foodstuffs of animal origin, including poultrymeat and beef. He also pointed out the potential of the Polish agricultural sector and invited the Canadian party to visit Poland. In addition, the Secretary of State met with the Premier of Ontario. The talks focused on strengthening economic relations.
During the visit to Ottawa a meeting with the President of the Canada-Poland Parliamentary Friendship Group Peter Fonseca was held in the Canadian federal parliament. During the discussion, the Deputy Minister referred to the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Poland and Canada, highlighted that the Polish agri-food industry is one of the most modern in Europe, and pointed out the high quality of Polish products.
In addition, meetings with Canadian businessmen were held, including owners of retail stores offering food imported from Poland, targeted mainly at the needs of the Polish community in Canada, as well as the rest of the society.
The Deputy Minister also participated in promotional events related to the economic mission organised by EU Commissioner for Agriculture & Rural Development Phil Hogan. Polish producers had the opportunity to take advantage of promotional opportunities offered both by the EC and the Ministry of Agriculture, which organized a Polish exhibition booth at the SIAL trade fair.
The Canadian market is becoming more and more popular among Polish entrepreneurs; therefore, it has been included in the 2017 promotion plan as a priority market.
