Today, the Undersecretary of State Ryszard Zarudzki held a meeting with the Vice-Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia, visiting Poland under the study visit carried out under the project “Supporting regional and rural development in Serbia”.

The leitmotivs of discussions included: potential for development of cooperation in the area of agriculture, trade and expert cooperation and Polish accession experiences in context of the EU rural development programmes. Pursuant to the regulations in force in the EU and international recommendations (OIE), the Polish party applied for abolishing the import restrictions for pigs and pig meat from Poland due to ASF prevalence by the Serbian party.
The bilateral meeting was followed by the expert meeting attended by both ministers and the remaining participants of the study visit from the Republic of Serbia. They included the representatives of the Serbian Institutions: Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, national and regional development agencies, Association of Cities and Communes and National Network for Rural Development of the Republic of Serbia.
With regard to interest of the Serbian party, the leitmotivs of the expert meeting included: agricultural advisory, strategies of rural areas and agriculture development, Polish pre-accession experiences concerning among others the SAPARD programme.
Since 2012, Poland has been recording a positive and growing trade balance in the exchange of agri-food products with the Republic of Serbia. In 2016, value of export to the Republic of Serbia amounted to EUR 77.2 million and increased by 24% comparing to the same period in 2015.
The key export product in this period was apples (EUR 9 million).
In 2016 Serbia was one of the leading directions for export of apples outside the EU and CIS.
