Today in the morning, a bilateral meeting of Minister Krzysztof Jurgiel with Deputy Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary, Péter Gál, was held at the area of Poznań International Fair.

During the talks, among others, the matters of the reform of legislation on geographical indications and designations of origin, protection policy of special national agricultural and agri-food products were discussed. The effects of the regulation containing proposals for simplification of the base acts of the EU policies were also talk about. The ministers also discussed the methods of keeping young farmers in rural areas.
“I am convinced that today's talks are another important step in improving very good cooperation between our countries,” Minister Jurgiel said and added that given the importance of agriculture in the economies of Poland and Hungary and lively trade and political relations between our two countries, cultural and historical closeness, as well as the strength of Hungary's voice in the EU, we are striving to maintain good cooperation in the field of agriculture. We want good relations, both bilateral and in the formula of the extended Visegrad Group.
“We count on the support of Hungary for the issues which Poland submits as proposals in the framework of the EU Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries,” the head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture added.
Hungary occupies the eighth position among the countries to which Poland exports its agri-food products.
In 2015, export of these agri-food products amounted to EUR 579 600 thousand. The main export products to the Hungarian market include: bread and pastry, cigarettes, chocolate, pork, poultry, cheese and curd, mineral water, fruit and vegetable products and tea and coffee extracts.
In 2015, the balance of trade with Hungary was positive and amounted to PLN 237 200 thousand.
