Today, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Krzysztof Jurgiel, discussed with the EU Commissioner Phil Hogan. The meeting was held during the session of the AGRIFISH Council in Brussels on request of Poland.

Minister Jurgiel presented the extremely difficult situation on the pig meat market in Poland. This issue has been also included in the agenda of the meeting of the Council of Ministers. The Minister requests for initiation of the private storage aid scheme for pig meat at the earliest possible date. In his opinion however, this instrument is insufficient to improve the market situation and therefore he requests for initiation of the other aid instruments, including for the most export subsidies. In addition, difficult situation of milk producers requires urgent and firm actions. The Minister requested Commissioner Hogan to support the legal solutions enabling remission of the second and third tranche of payments for exceeding the milk quota in the last quota year.
The Commissioner congratulated Minister Jurgiel on his new appointment, expressing his hopes for successful mutual cooperation. Referring to the presented proposals, he informed that the private storage aid scheme to be launched on 4 January 2016 envisages increased rates for storage and extended product list. He additionally assured that the EC has been currently working on further aid instruments for the pig meat market.
With regard to the milk market, Commissioner Hogan obliged himself to investigate the proposed solutions provided by the Minister upon receiving an official request.
The head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture emphasized also the importance of the agricultural sector in trade negotiations, in particular in these carried out with the USA. He stressed in his statement that the potential arrangement may not undermine both the market and the key sectors of the Polish agriculture.
The Commissioner expressed his understanding for the Polish postulates and emphasized that these issues are well managed and considered in the negotiations with the USA.
In addition, the Commissioner informed on recent discussions held with the main US negotiator on the advanced negotiations concerning authorization of the apples and pears, including from Poland, on the US market.
Finally, Minister Krzysztof Jurgiel invited Commissioner Hogan to pay an official visit to Poland, which was warmly welcomed. The Commissioner declared his visit in the 1Q 2016.
