Today, Ewa Lech, the Undersecretary of State, and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Ha Cong Tuam, signed in Hanoi a Memorandum on the Agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on the cooperation in agriculture.

This bilateral agreement concerns developing cooperation in the following areas:
- Cooperation on agricultural production
- Cooperation on agricultural manufacture
- Cooperation on plant and animal protection and quarantine
- Cooperation on trade and investment development in agriculture
Today’s meeting in Hanoi took place in the margin of a visit of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, to Vietnam.
Minister Krzysztof Jurgiel was informed that the Vietnam would be interested in signing such agreement by the Ambassador of Vietnam during their meeting on 30 August 2017. On 4 October 2017, Vietnam submitted draft Memorandum to Poland, which was signed today.
Vietnam is a very important market in the context of developing export of Polish agri-food products. In 2016, the agri-food products accounted for 54% of total value of Polish export to Vietnam (EUR 115 mln in 2016). From the Polish agri-food products export, in 2016, Vietnam was second largest target market (after Hong Kong) in East, South and South-East Asia. Furthermore, the country belongs to ASEAN (approx. 600 mln people). It was identified as one of the 14 priority markets in the context of developing Polish agri-food products export.
